Rowan didn’t want to leave Piper’s bed, but after they spent the last forty-five minutes in the shower. He knew he had to; he still had a client he had to guard.

“I didn’t think we would be seeing you today?” Killian said when Rowan walked into the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee.

“Not one word. Piper will be down soon, and I don’t want no snide remarks.”

“I would never make a snide remark.”

Arrow walked into the kitchen carrying the big box. “Has Piper been down yet?”

“I’m right here,” she said as she stepped into the room,

Rowan walked over and pulled her into his arms. “Good morning.” He said, kissing her.

“Good morning,” she said as she wrapped her arms around him.

“Piper, I went through everything in this box.”

“What is it?”

“First, the box you read is the only one that mentions you being their daughter. The others tell about their life in the United States. They have done some spying in the early years. They both worked for NASA and what they reported on was space travel. The two didn’t spy on our weapons or our Air force or any other of our services. They made good money there, and your Dad was a good investor. Then they disappeared. The Russian Mafia has hunted for them for years. When your mom became pregnant, they moved to California and changed their identity. Everything was going good until your Dad had a heart attack. And when he went into the hospital, they found them.”

“I didn't know he had a heart attack. When was that?”

“When you were eighteen. That’s when they sold their house and bought you that apartment. If you didn’t hear from them, it was because they were in hiding for five years. After that, they thought they would never be found. But they still were careful until the end. Someone they grew up with, in that American town in Russia, saw your mother. She followed her home. At that time, they were living in Cleveland, Ohio. They left everything behind and bought this house and the one in Alaska in your name. That’s why all the cameras are up. I’m going to assume the place in Alaska also has cameras everywhere. So now we know why all the cameras are up. They must have been so paranoid and frightened they would be found.”

Piper was quiet, then she looked at Rowan. “I wonder if they did find them.”

“What do you mean?”

“They died when their car went off a cliff into the ocean. Their bodies were never found. What if they are in Russia waiting for their execution.”

“Why would Russia fake their death? They didn’t have to do that. They would have just grabbed them and throw them on a plane or ship. Most likely, they would have shot them in the head right then.”

“My parents knew I would find these boxes. They knew I would start hunting for them. So they faked their death before they were taken. That way, I would think they were dead.
